For difficult days…because we all have them…

September 19th, 07 4:50 pm | Posted by Andrea

“Resistance is about believing you are vulnerable or susceptible to something not wanted

and holding a stance of protection

which only holds you in a place of not letting in the well-being
that would be there otherwise.

There is nothing big enough

to protect you

from unwanted things -

and there are no unwanted things big enough

to get into your experience.”

Abraham-Hicks

When you get that palpable sensation of having one foot on the gas, and one foot on the brakes in your life, where do you turn, what do you do?

I had a whopper of a bad day just yesterday as it happens!

Mid-day it occurred to me that it had been a good long while between whoppers, and that it was likely due to a practice I started (quietly - it didn’t seem de rigeur at the time) experimenting with about 2 and a half years ago before I’d even heard of Abraham (it’s in the water, the air!).

That of seeing resistance first, last and always as conscientious objection - as wise, trustworthy, worthy of attention and meaningful.

As soul-driven and evolutionary - for me and more than me.

This quote from The Power of Myth by Joseph Campbell inspired the practice (as did alot of other insights, but this one comes to mind first).

‘Ramakrishna once said that if all you think of are your sins, then you are a sinner. And when I read that, I thought of my boyhood, going to confession on Sundays, meditating on all the little sins that I had committed during the week.’

‘Now I think one should go and say, “Bless me, Father, for I have been great, these are the good things I have done this week.” Identify your notion of yourself with the positive, rather than with the negative.’

‘… the very idea of sin puts you in a servile condition throughout your life.’

Works for me - unless, of course, I’m resistant!

    Hi Andrea,

This is such a great quote! Even when I’m clear I get nervous or that gremlin voice starts barking out directions, orders or expectations that instead of motivate me just start dragging my energy.

    What do I do?

1- Look small - Make Joy List! Look for all the beautiful, wonderful and amazing things going on in my life and business. Evidence that the universe is here supporting my well-being!

    2. Go Big! Look at my 1 year Flow Line…this gets me away from the perspective of “what have I done today” and into stepping back and seeing how today is part of a bigger picture. Ahhh, breathe easier…

    3. Call a friend or collegue who will let me get it out and will help shift my energy.

    4. Go for a walk and listen to Abraham-Hicks on ipod remind of all of this!!

    Thanks-

I had a challenge the other day. I was driving through town on my way to do some work for my girl friend , when my truck broke down. Now instead of being upset I decided that I was going to make the best of the situation. Just then two young men came (they had interupted their lunch )to my aid and helped my to push the vehicle to a safe place. While waiting for the tow truck I decided to hang out and talk with people while enjoying the wait and made a business contact! and I ended up have a wonderful conversation with the tow truck driver on the way to the shop. As luck would have that day the shop was closed (not normally closed on that day) but there was a parts store , next door and they had the part I needed on the shelf. They even let my borrow tools so I could fix it on the spot. The point to all of this is it’s not what happens but how you decide to handle it for yourself . Sometimes challenges bring oportunity and allow you to grow. I’m actually thankful the vehicle broke down and the positive experience that resulted.
