Words that are doorways | Always, Never and Breakthroughs

Kibbitzing on the phone the other day, I made a comment that I’ve made before. I would say, oh, guessing - I’ve probably said this particular thing - hmm…at least a dozen times in my life.

It’s:

“I’m the girl in grade school who no matter where I was on the field in P.E., if there was a ball involved in what we were doing…it would always hit me in the face, and break my glasses.”

Interesting. In particular because this time I said it and heard myself say it. Especially the word always.

Always is one of those words, isn’t it? Like the word never. (And must and should.) I’m starting to think that these words are particularly useful because in working with clients, they seem to be doorways into coaching breakthroughs.

Have you ever noticed this? (Don’t say always or never, now.) ;-)
For me, this particular ‘always’ about not being a very ‘physical’ person has become a doorway that I realize I’m getting invited to step through. I think my next breakthrough is a physical one.

As I look around contemplating this, this is confirmed by the fact that for most of my adult life, working so much online, developing my creativity and ideas, I spend a lot of time in my head and heart.

The physical plane is my most underdeveloped, so it stands to reason I have the most room to grow there. (Fertile ground for breakthroughs.)

What is your never, or always? And how is it an opportunity for your growth?

When do your clients say always or never? Can you use this as a shorthand for coaching work ‘to be done?’

And for marketers, how does this relate? I think it does, in fact, quite a bit.

Just the other day, or night rather…I was sneaking a golden oreo. You know, the white oreo cookies. (Yum.)

And drat it, but the cookie packaging gave me away. Crackle crackle, in that way that only cookie packaging does.

“Ugh. Why does the cookie packaging **always** make so much noise?”

So what does this have to do with personal evolution, always, and your business?

Well…what if you were to listen for what you “always” do, see, experience, or say…and ask…what if you were to consider the opposite?

Oh and yes, as for the cookies. Don’t you think the cookie world would be rocked to its cellophane wrappers if they would only make the silent cookie package - perfect for late night binges you don’t want your family to know about???

What is your ‘always’ and how is it a doorway for you?
